Experience 12 - Albenga
Taking a walk down centuries: the life and thrills of a town, which rises and rises again.
Duration: 7 hours
Price: Euro 120,00 per person
Albenga is the main city in one of the few, and possibly the only flatlands in Liguria. This facilitated the birth of the town and the development of an agricultural area.
An easy stroll in this Ligurian centre built on flat land shows signs of the Roman colonization, the Middle Ages, the Baroque past, and the earnest productivity of the 1800s. As a Roman settlement it boasts a regular plan, and each street corner offers interesting glimpses. Don’t forget to look upwards because Albenga is an ancient Bishopric with an imposing Mediaeval cathedral and two Baptisteries one of which still retains its Mediaeval character with over ten towers (there used to be more in the past) and dates back to early Christianity.
This city is worth a visit for its Baroque palazzi, not-to-be-missed Museums, Roman memories, and traces of ancient dominations. Finally, the Sommariva Museum, linked with a wine and oil producer, with strong roots in a territory, which offers the rural basis for each vegetable preparation in the varied local cuisine.
